Meta warns that AI spending should be planned like a payroll budget

Instagram head Adam Mosseri believes AI tool spending will become as much a budget line item for companies as salaries, with employees eventually getting a set limit on AI usage instead of unlimited access. He argues that without controls, spending on AI-generated text, code, and analytics can spiral, especially once dozens of employees are using it simultaneously.

For businesses in Kazakhstan, this is a cue to check how money is currently being spent on AI services: who is using them and for what, whether there are per-department limits, and whether a clear monthly spending report is even possible. This matters most for companies where employees sign up for AI tools on their own, without a single procurement or accounting policy.

A sensible step is to agree upfront with a vendor on a transparent, predictable pricing model for AI agent usage, so a sudden spike in load doesn't turn into a surprise bill at the end of the month.
