Tele2 used Big Data to find cities' darkest spots — and helped light them
Tele2 Kazakhstan used Big Data to find the darkest places in its cities: anonymized subscriber movement data showed where people walk along unlit stretches — and those spots were helped to get lighting. Data collected by the network for technical needs turned into a map of urban safety.
It is a textbook example of data's secondary value. Information accumulated for one purpose almost always contains answers to questions from an entirely different field — you only have to think of asking them. The operator never collected "dark street data"; it simply looked at what it already had from a new angle.
The same move is available to a business of any size. A cash register knows not just revenue but peak hours, product pairings, weather dependence of demand; a request log holds not just workload but process bottlenecks. The barrier was always the price of asking: an analyst, exports, dashboards. That barrier is gone — in 1Cifer, for instance, a question to company data is asked in plain language and the AI agent answers directly from spreadsheets and the database. Start with one question a week to your own numbers — the habit pays back faster than any report.
