EAEU countries agree on a unified strategy for digitalizing economy, trade and infrastructure

The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union agreed on a unified digitalization strategy covering the economy, trade and infrastructure. It is a move toward common rules of the game in the digital environment: comparable data standards, electronic documents recognized across borders, and digital services along transport corridors.

For Kazakhstan, which carries key routes between Asia and Europe, the infrastructure part of the strategy weighs especially heavily. But the consequences are tangible for an ordinary trading company too: the more cross-border paperwork inside the union goes electronic, the less time and money is eaten by paper, couriers and re-entering the same data. Historically such integrations move slowly — but once the mechanism launches, the advantage goes to those ready to plug in immediately.

The practical takeaway for a Kazakhstani company working with EAEU partners: do not wait for the final regulations — digitize your own perimeter now, from books and contracts to transport and warehouse documents. Digitized data also opens the road to AI tools: building supply analytics and automatic reconciliations with counterparties is far easier on electronic documents than on folders of scans.
