Gemini hits a billion users — faster than any other Google product
Google announced that its AI assistant Gemini has reached a billion users — faster than any other product in the company's history. Search, Gmail and Android took years to travel that road; conversational AI covered it in far less time, and against live competition from other assistants.
The number matters not in itself but as a measurement of how fast society adopts the technology. A billion users means AI is no longer an enthusiasts' tool: schoolchildren and pensioners, managers and drivers use it — including your employees and your customers, right now, mostly without any rules in place.
Two practical conclusions follow for a business owner. First: customers increasingly arrive having already "consulted" AI — about prices, product range and reputation; it's worth checking what assistants know about your company and tidying up your public information. Second: employees already use AI at work — spontaneously and without oversight; instead of bans, it is wiser to set rules about what may go into public services and what belongs only in internal tools. A technology with a billion users doesn't ask permission to enter your company — it is already inside.
