The Kazakh language is getting its own large AI model
Kazakhstan has announced work on its own large language model for the Kazakh language. The logic is straightforward: global models are trained mostly on English and other major languages, leaving Kazakh on the periphery — with predictable consequences for answer quality, grammar and knowledge of local context.
For the country this is more than prestige. A model that genuinely understands Kazakh means working voice assistants in public services, correct documents, and education and services for millions who prefer their native language. Training on local data also means knowing local realities: laws, geography, business practice.
Businesses should read this pragmatically: the share of customers expecting service in Kazakh keeps growing, and a strong national model will make bilingual support markedly cheaper to run. Whoever speaks to the customer in their language first wins the loyalty. The demand is already visible: on the 1Cifer platform, AI agents answer staff in both Russian and Kazakh, and Kazakh-language scenarios are requested no less often.
