QR Payment Fees Can't Exceed Card Fees

Kazakhstan's central bank has clarified how fees for the Unified QR code are set: the fee businesses pay for accepting QR payments cannot exceed what they pay for card payments. The regulator's press service confirmed the rule, spelling out terms for both buyers and sellers using the system.

The clarification removes uncertainty that has bothered merchants: previously, banks and acquiring companies could set different rates for QR payments, and some businesses ended up paying more than expected. Now there's a clear benchmark — the QR rate must stay within the card rate, so any overcharge can be spotted and disputed.

Check your current acquiring terms with your bank or payment provider and compare the QR rate against the card rate — any gap is grounds to request a recalculation. Reconciling bank statements and fees suits an agent well: 1Cifer processes payments from bank and document data, flagging mismatches and suspicious charges before your accountant does.
