Twenty major tech companies have now cited AI for layoffs — Monday.com joins the list

TechCrunch maintains a running list of major 2026 layoffs in which employers explicitly cited artificial intelligence — with Monday.com joining, it now counts twenty companies. The wording repeats: processes have been automated, AI covers part of the functions, headcount is being reshaped to a new structure of work.

The list deserves a sober reading. For some companies AI is a convenient explanation for cuts conceived for financial reasons. But the very fact that "we replaced this with AI" has become a normal corporate phrase marks a turning point: automation has moved from experiment to an argument of HR policy. Support, scripted sales, basic analytics and content are cited most often.

For employers in Kazakhstan the list is free reconnaissance: it shows which functions the industry already considers automatable. The sensible strategy is not to copy the layoffs but to redeploy people: hand routine to algorithms and direct the freed hours toward what grows revenue — customer work, product development, quality. Companies that make this transition without panic and with retraining win twice: in efficiency and in team loyalty.
