Vibecoding in action: the App Store is flooded with AI-built apps — the barrier to software has collapsed
The App Store is experiencing a "vibecoding" flood: hundreds of thousands of new apps built with AI by people who a year ago couldn't have written a line of code. You describe the idea in plain language, the model generates the app, the author ships it. Apple is already throttling the flow — from submission limits to stricter review.
It's easy to see only a garbage wave here — average app quality really has fallen. But the effect that matters for business is different: the cost of purpose-built software has collapsed. An internal estimate calculator, a goods-acceptance form, a crew timesheet — things that used to require a contractor and a budget now come together in an evening, built by someone with no IT background.
A practical lens for an owner: inventory the places where staff have lived in Excel and messengers for years because "there's no money for a proper system." Some of those gaps can now be closed with AI tools almost for free. Just one caution: homemade software shouldn't touch money or personal data without review — speed doesn't cancel responsibility.
