Kazakhstan will teach AI from first grade: what it means for the labour market
Digital Business reported plans to introduce artificial intelligence study in Kazakhstani schools starting from first grade. Younger pupils are promised not neural-network programming but basic literacy: what AI can and cannot do, how to phrase requests and how to treat generated answers. Complexity grows with each grade level.
Teachers will argue about methods; for the labour market the picture is simple: the state is laying down a generation for whom AI is an ordinary tool, not a technology from the news. For employers in Kazakhstan this sets two frames. The long one: in ten-twelve years «able to work with AI» will vanish from resumes the way «able to use a computer» did. The immediate one: the gap between schoolchildren taught from age seven and employees not taught at all will only widen.
The practical takeaway is not to wait for a generational shift. An hour a week reviewing how staff use AI in their tasks — what worked, what did not — gives a company the very literacy schools will spend a decade growing. And deploying AI agents into working processes teaches faster than any course: the skill appears where the tool is embedded in daily work.
