ChatGPT ads reach Europe: AI answers become an advertising medium
OpenAI announced the expansion of ChatGPT advertising to European markets — after initial tests, the format is becoming part of the product. The economics are straightforward: hundreds of millions of users ask the assistant questions, including outright purchase questions, and that attention is too valuable to stay unmonetized.
For business this is a tectonic shift in the rules of visibility. For twenty years companies learned to reach the first page of search; now a growing share of customers never see a results page at all — they get the assistant's finished answer. A place in that answer becomes the new "first screen", and it will be fought over — with ads in some places, and elsewhere with the quality of data about you that the model finds and trusts.
Kazakh companies should run a simple exercise: ask popular AI assistants about their own category — "where to order water delivery in Astana", "which CRM suits a small shop" — and see whether you are mentioned and what exactly is said. If the AI agent does not know you or retells stale facts, that is the growth area: an up-to-date site with structured information, directory listings, reviews. Ad formats will reach our market too — but organic presence in answers is cheaper to start building before they do.
