E-Notary: biometrics and AI arrive in Kazakhstan's notary system
Kazakhstan's notary sphere is getting the E-Notary system: biometric identification of participants and artificial intelligence for document checks. The purpose is twofold — remove unnecessary in-person visits where identity can be reliably confirmed remotely, and at the same time make fraud with stand-ins and forged powers of attorney harder.
The notary is a bottleneck in many business processes: share deals, powers of attorney for staff, certified copies for tenders and banks. Every visit costs hours, and for companies with branches in different cities — business trips. Biometrics paired with AI document checks moves a large share of these actions online without losing legal force.
Business should do two things. First, run an audit: which company processes regularly hit the notary wall, and which of them the system will let you close remotely — direct savings of lawyers' and managers' time. Second, update internal counterparty verification rules: when powers of attorney and deals go digital, their authenticity must be verified with digital tools too, not "by eye".
