Eight medals for Kazakhstani students: how the home AI olympiad IOAI 2026 ended
Astana wrapped up the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, IOAI 2026: the Kazakhstani school team took eight medals. The country hosted the tournament, which gathers young teams from around the world, for the first time — and the home olympiad delivered the heaviest medal haul in Kazakhstan's short history of participation.
Behind the sporting statistics is a structural shift. Medals at an AI olympiad are not memorized formulas but the ability to build and train models for open-ended problems — the very thing adult teams do in labs and startups. A generation solving such problems at school age will enter the job market in three to four years, fluent in tools that today's employees spend months mastering.
For an employer in Kazakhstan this is a reason to move before competitors do: internships for olympiad participants, real problems for student teams, mentorship from your own specialists. Young talent needs real data and live business processes — and the company that provides them will be first to get people who know how to turn AI into results.
