Kazakhstan's Digital Code comes into force: unified rules for data, platforms and AI
Kazakhstan's Digital Code has come into force — a document that for the first time gathers into one system the norms previously scattered across dozens of laws: personal data protection, electronic document flow, digital platforms, the use of artificial intelligence. The country now has a common legal framework for its digital economy.
For business the key consequence is certainty — and its price. Certainty: the rules for handling customer data, electronic services and AI tools can now be read in one place instead of being pieced together from bylaws. The price: with a unified code, regulators find it easier to ask questions, and the argument "we didn't know which law applied" is finally history.
The practical step for a company owner: task a lawyer or consultant with a short audit on three questions — what personal data you store and on what grounds, whether your e-document flow matches the new norms, and how AI use is formalized in processes that affect customers. An hour of that analysis now is cheaper than any inspection later.
