Kazakhstan launches Agromarket, a digital platform for agricultural trade
Kazakhstan launched Agromarket, a digital platform for trading agricultural produce. The idea is direct: a farmer lists produce, and a buyer — from a restaurant to a processing plant — finds it without the chain of intermediaries who each added their percentage to the price.
The agricultural sector remained one of the country's last big markets where deals ran on phone calls, acquaintances and weekend bazaars. Moving this trade online changes the economics for both sides: the farmer's sales geography expands, while the buyer gets price comparison and supplier history instead of "we've always bought from him."
For businesses that buy food — restaurants, cafes, food producers, retail chains — the practical step is obvious: register, benchmark your regular procurement basket, run one test deal. Even if the platform is still rough, early participants get the best suppliers and a say in what the service becomes. And procurement prices are the expense line where a few percent of savings shows up in profit immediately.
