Digital tenge enters full-scale circulation from July 18
From July 18 the digital tenge enters full-scale circulation — the third form of the national currency, alongside cash and non-cash money, moves from a years-long pilot into the everyday economy. Kazakhstan joins the few countries that have carried a central bank digital currency through to practical launch.
The digital tenge's defining feature is programmability. Money can be "colored" for a designated purpose: budget funds impossible to spend off-target, automatic settlement upon contract completion, transparent payment chains in public procurement. For honest business this is largely good news: less room for kickbacks and delays, more automation in settlements.
Practically, a company owner should take two steps. First, ask your bank how digital tenge operations for legal entities will work and whether mandatory scenarios will appear for state-order participants — that's where the new form of money will arrive first. Second, put the digital tenge into your accounting plans — the financial systems and AI tools that parse your bank statements today will need to understand this form of settlement too.
